Crystal (She/Her) is a Licensed Midwife in the state of Michigan and has been a Certified Professional Midwife since 2006. Originally from metro Detroit, Crystal completed an apprenticeship with a local Detroit midwife and an internship at a birth center in Texas before moving to Pennsylvania to join a homebirth practice and then spent six years in India before returning back to metro Detroit in 2020.
She has experience working in a wide variety of birth settings ranging from rural homebirth practices in Pennsylvania to a busy hospital based birth center practice in urban India. Witnessing birth in such varied settings created a passion for global midwifery and public health while strengthening her belief that all birthing people in all settings need improved access to respectful reproductive healthcare, care through informed decision making, quality childbirth education, and increased access to skilled midwifery care.
Outside of the clinic, Crystal loves to travel, knit, and spend time with family.
Tara (She/Her) is a certified professional midwife licensed in the state of Michigan. Starting out in Texas, she entered a midwifery training program through the Association of Texas Midwives and started attending births in 2014. After finishing the classes at ATM she completed the North American Registry of Midwives Exam, secured her Texas license, and earned the Midwifery Bridge Certificate. Tara moved from Texas in 2020 and became licensed in Michigan that year.
Tara has worked in several practices over the years, with CNMs (Certified Nurse Midwives) and CPMs (Certified Professional Midwives), and in both birth center and home settings. During this time, she used this experience to learn what kind of midwife she wanted to be. Tara believes that the role of a midwife is to provide informed, supportive, and attentive care during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. She recognizes that each person and each family is unique and works to ensure that the care provided meets the needs of each individual. She is committed to preserving client autonomy, and to ensuring that each family’s needs are met and that they are truly heard.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time exploring the wonderful state of Michigan, gardening, and spending time with loved ones.

Stephanie Summers
Office Manager
Stephanie (She/Her) is the non-medical czar of the office and handles all scheduling, billing, paperwork, and various miscellany such as making sure the midwives have snacks packed so they don't get hangry at births. Stephanie spent 8 years as a middle school teacher and has also worked as a birth assistant.
Seeing first-hand the transformative powers of educated and empowered healthcare, gave her a deep respect and appreciation for midwifery. While her interests in midwifery are definitely theoretical rather than practical, she is honored to help the midwives do what they do with her work behind the scenes.

In her spare time, Stephanie is an avid reader, a loving aunt, and a long-suffering Lions fan, who is seeing a glimmer of hope on that front for the first time in her life!

Welcoming the Future of Midwifery: Our Commitment to Education
At MI Birth, we are dedicated to providing personalized, client centered care and we are equally committed to cultivating the next generation of skilled and compassionate midwives. Diverse clinical experience is crucial for midwifery students to develop the competencies needed to support physiological birth and provide holistic, relationship-centered care in the future. By welcoming our student midwives into your care, you are directly contributing to the future of our profession and ensuring that the valuable model of homebirth midwifery remains a strong, visible, and safe option for families for years to come.
Our typical birth team consists of 3 team members, and since birth can be unpredictable, we have an On Call Schedule to account for ensure every client has a fresh birth team. Every birth is attended by at least one of our Michigan licensed midwives and an experienced student or birth assistant. Birth assistants are trained by our team and are certified in neonatal resuscitation (NRP) and CPR, among other certificates. Our families have the opportunity to get to know birth assistants and midwifery students during regularly scheduled prenatal visits.
STUDENT MIDWIVES & BIRTH ASSISTANTS

Anna Williams Student Midwife
Anna began her second bachelor’s degree at Mercy in Action College of Midwifery in 2022. Having lived in rural Michigan for most of her life, she hopes to expand the care options for those who live in rural areas when she graduates.

Passionate about patient-centered care, she believes that open communication, education, and autonomy are the foundation for any successful patient/provider relationship.
In her free time, Anna bakes and is learning to sew, although most of her time is spent chasing after her toddler and studying. She loves spending time with her husband, her six siblings, and ever-growing number of nieces and nephews.

Erica Businski
Student Midwife
Erica’s (They/Them) journey to birthwork started nearly 18 years ago with the birth of their first child. They have led groups for babywearing and taught elimination communication. Erica supported and normalized chest/breastfeeding as a La Leche League leader. They are a movement teacher specializing in core and pelvic floor health and feeling at home in your body. Erica has been a birth doula since 2021 and began attending home births as a midwife assistant in 2024.
Erica believes in the transformative power of pregnancy and birth to bring out the best in all of us, and is honored to be in spaces that treat birth as an empowering event for all birthing people.
In their free time, Erica enjoys … who am I kidding I don't have free time! During rare quiet moments, Erica enjoys knitting, family camping trips and being in and around water.

Erica is currently enrolled at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College Midwifery Program.

Moné Hendricks
Student Midwife

I am Moné Hendricks, a passionate and dedicated midwife based in Wayne and Washtenaw County, Michigan. My journey into midwifery began in 2018, driven by my belief that women are naturally designed to give birth and deserve to experience this powerful moment with the care and respect they deserve. As an African American woman, I also recognize the need for more representation in the field and the importance of educating and advocating for women, particularly in underserved communities, to ensure they are informed, empowered, and protected throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
Currently, I am in my first year of studies at Southwest Wisconsin Technical College, further deepening my knowledge and skills. Prior to this, I attended the National Midwifery Institute, where I had the privilege of attending around 40 births, gaining hands-on experience in supporting women during one of the most transformative moments of their lives.
I specialize in providing holistic care, focusing on supporting the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of every individual I work with. My approach is grounded in empathy, warmth, and a deep commitment to ensuring that every birthing person, especially those from underserved communities, has access to quality care. I believe in creating a safe and inviting space where my clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to make informed choices about their birth experience.
Outside of midwifery, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and staying active. I am honored to serve the women and families of Michigan, helping them navigate the beautiful, sometimes challenging, journey of pregnancy and childbirth.
Mercedes Reifsnider Birth Assistant

In her free time, Mercedes stays busy with her 5 kids and husband. She loves to hike, trail run, and do Crossfit and can almost always be caught with a coffee and her big water bottle.
